Breakthrough for Tuam firm as tagging monopoly broken

AN 18-year-monoply in the cattle tagging business by one firm came to an end at the weekend after a legal challenge mounted against the Department of Agriculture by Tuam company Cormac Tagging resulted in the Minister for Agriculture opening up the business to other operators on the day High Court proceedings were about to be lodged.
TJ Gormley of Cormac Tagging says that after campaigning for 14 years to break the monopoly of one main supplier for the country he is very happy with the decision, which he says also came with an apology from Minister Michael Creed.
