Tax payers dumped with clean-up costs

GALWAY taxpayers have been dumped with a bill of more than €150,000 to clean up after fly-tippers operating across the county.
The money was paid to external contractors by Galway County Council for environmental clean-ups in response to incidents of illegal dumping during the past three years.
A local government minister has warned that the clean-up cost could rise substantially if pay-by-weight bin charges have the effect of “incentivising illegal dumping”.
