EYESORE on Shop Street.

Concrete slabs a blemish at tuam bridge

IT’S hypocritical of Galway Co Council to discuss heritage and protecting historical structures when the body is responsible for an eyesore which is a blemish on Tuam’s most valued streetscape.
This was the frank opinion expressed by local Cllr Shaun Cunniffe when he rounded on the authority’s officials for not dealing with the defacement of the town’s historic Shop Street Bridge with ugly concrete slabs.
The area was realigned when the inner relief road was built but Cllr Cunniffe insists it was finished off in a most unsympathetic material which is totally out of character with the area.
He made his comments during a debate on adding buildings to and removing them from the council’s protected structures list.
