Glory days will come again for tuam stadium

GLORY days have been celebrated in Tuam Stadium, and they will be again. That was the message from the breakfast-time launch of the campaign to re-develop and refurbish the home of Galway football.
Breakfast meetings are not the norm around here, but the timing and the venue, the Corralea Court Hotel in the Square on Sunday morning, were perfect for a gathering of sports fans, many of whom were on their way to the Galway-Armagh game in the Orchard County.
The DAFTS (Development Advocates for Tuam Stadium) campaign has got off to an excellent start, thanks to generous donations of €10,000 from the Galway Association of London, and €5,000 from Supermac’s boss Pat McDonagh. But the hard work of selling 3,000 tickets at €50 each in the limited draw has just begun, and the sellers were encouraged by County Board vice-chairman John Joe Halloran to sell them everywhere — “at a Fianna Fail event, a Fine Gael function, or coming home from a funeral”.
