Water bills to be refunded as group schemes in limbo

HOUSEHOLDERS in Annaghdown are being urged not to pay bills issued by Irish Water until the body formally takes charge of the group water scheme in the area.
The utility company has issued bills locally since June, which most households have paid, but it has now emerged that the water scheme, which is connected to the Tuam Regional Supply Scheme is not under its remit.
Fianna Fail Councillor Mary Hoade has been told the situation is replicated in 19 other group water schemes throughout the county that have fallen into a void since responsibility for water services was taken from Galway County Council.
