Tuam Garda Station: cutbacks

Cutbacks blamed for slow response to estate violence

A LACK of Garda resources in the Tuam area has been branded 'worrying’ following a 45-minute delay in local Gardaí responding to a public order incident in an estate in the town over the weekend.
Residents of Gold Cave reported a serious disturbance to Tuam Garda Station on Friday evening, but were told a Garda squad car was not available for at least 45 minutes.
Fianna Fáil TD Colm Keaveney said the situation was worrying where people living in one of the largest towns in the county had no police protection when they needed it.
“Several residents of Gold Cave Lodge and Gold Cave Crescent estates on Bishop Street in Tuam have contacted me to express alarm at delays in the response of the Gardaí to a violent incident in the area late Friday evening,” he said.
