Deputy Colm Keaveney is raising the issue in the Dail

Suicidal teens family told leave it to garda

A QUESTION is to be asked in the Dail as to why a young person in severe need of psychiatric care and assistance was referred to the Gardaí as the family’s only option at a time when the Mental Health Service in Galway had millions to spare.
The teenager in question is frequently violent and regularly threatens suicide but the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) are unable to accede to his parents’ repeated requests for therapeutic intervention and complete assessment for their child as an in-patient. CAMHS suggested that the Gardaí were their only option.
