Hopes fade for Caherlistrane PO as An Post refuses to return agency

HOPES that a postal service will be returned to Caherlistrane appear to be fading following a meeting between the local community council and An Post officials this week.
Community representatives were left frustrated after the meeting on Monday evening, where they were told the company’s policy in recent years had been to phase out agency postal services, which had been in operation in Caherlistrane until the local shop closed earlier this month.
The premises has since been taken over under new management and the new owner has offered to incur any costs involved in resuming the service.
However, officials from An Post said the company’s policy on agency outlets had changed in recent years and that the overall plan was to consolidate existing services, which did not allow for new agency outlets to be sanctioned.
