Moylough first in the West with outdoor bowling arena

MOYLOUGH will have the first outdoor bowling alley in the West when the facility opens in the village sportsfield on Saturday, May 31

Like a giant pool table, the smooth green-surfaced facility fits neatly into the ground in a beautifully landscaped area of Moylough Sportsfield on the edge of the village — and it is an arena where people can play bowls day or night.
“The surface had to be an all-weather one and it had to be similar to a pool table with the tarmacadam to be laid evenly underneath the special green cladding which was put in place by the Greengauge firm from Scotland,” says Michael Somers.
His colleague on the committee Martin Mannion says they hope people from different areas will use the new bowling arena.
“As we have floodlights fitted it can also be used at night when the playing area will be lit up as bright as day,” says Martin
Those involved are encouraging people of all ages to use it, says John Mannion from Lakeview who is Chairman of the committee.
“We hope people from all areas and of all ages will come and use this bowling alley, and even though it was first suggested to us in the sports field committee by some active retired people and senior citizens it is for people of every age,” says John.
