Collins is new Cathaoirleach for the county
FINE Gael Councillor from Turloughmore David Collins was unanimously elected as the Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council last Friday afternoon.
It's the first time for the Athenry-Oranmore local area representative to secure the position since he was first elected to the Council in 2019.
He was proposed and seconded by party colleagues Cllr Peter Feeney and Cllr Eileen Mannion and was appointed unopposed to the chair.
Expressing his gratitude, Cllr Collins said that he looks forward to working with all members of the council to better serve the community.
He believes that a lot of good work is being done in Galway and more can be done over the next year.
Fianna Fail Cllr Mary Hoade from Headford was elected as the Leas Cathaoirleach, after being nominated by her party colleagues Cllr Donagh Killilea and Cllr Michael Connolly.
