Everybody Dreams – The songs of Paul Cunniffe
ONE of Tuam’s best loved musicians will be remembered at a concert in the Mall Theatre in the town on Tuesday, August 11, in a show that has been completely sold out.
The late Paul Cunniffe made quite a mark on the world of music during his short life. His passing, on August 11 of 2001, cut short the promising career of the singer songwriter who cut his musical teeth in the New Wave band Blaze X in Tuam, and went on to have a professional career on the London music scene.
Paul’s songs, which included Everybody Dreams, are highly regarded and are sung regularly at gigs.
Paul’s son Tyler will join a host of local musicians in the Mall to sing again some of his songs. Tyler has been performing at open mic events in London, honing his singing skills for the concert in Tuam.
Dan Trayers is flying in from the Canarias in Spain for the concert while his brother Ger is coming home from Canada. Jamie Ralph, with his Blaze X credentials is coming up from Limerick.
Local singer songwriters are also lining up to sing some of Paul’s songs – Seamus Ruttledge, Conor O’Donnell, Darragh O’Dea, Midie Corcoran, Mary O’Connor, Ciara Finan, Noelie McDonnell, Nathan Barber and Broken Plains to name a few.
Patrons will also to be treated to a performance by teen punk sensation Millie Ross and it is hoped that some of the members of Blaze X will reunite on stage.
Tuam visual artist Jennifer Cunningham has produced some original pieces to commemorate the event. Her work will be on display in the foyer of the Mall on the night. Jojo Hynes will project photos and visuals at the show.
The poster for the event was created by Mike O’Dwyer of Factory Edge Design. Mike also designed the t-shirt. Limited editions of both will be available on the night in the Mall. Aoife Kilkelly of ROGUE Marketing has offered to help with social media.
