Children’s poems and artwork from Palestine for Tuam exhibition
“Wipe out that sadness and weave the dress of impossible from the tears.”
These words are part of a poem written by 13-year-old Roaa Al-Masri from Gaza, that will be on display at the exhibition of a book ‘Moon tell me Truth’ in Tuam's Town Hall this Friday (July 4).
The exhibition, organised by writer, performer and musician Little John Nee, will display a collection of poems written and illustrated by children from Palestine.
The poems have been lent to the Kinvara Palestine Solidarity Group by UK Charity, The Hands Up Project, a charity trust that works to connect children around the world with young people in Palestine.
With the use of online interaction, drama, and storytelling activities, it enables the use of creativity and self-expression to promote mutual understanding, personal growth and the development of English language skills.
The book ‘Moon tell me truth’ came together through a poetry competition held by The Hands Up Project in 2023.
It is a collection of poems and drawings by children aged between nine years to 15 years and will be available for sale during the exhibition tour in Tuam.
Founder of the UK charity Nick Bilbrough attended the Kinvara launch and said: “I’m delighted to see the work of these remarkable children reaching wider audiences.
“I am especially pleased to be able to share their poems with the people of Kinvara who I know have for many years shown their solidarity with the people of Palestine.”
The exhibition will open at The Town Hall, Tuam on Friday July 4 at 7pm and will be on display every day from 2pm to 5pm until Thursday, July 10.
