Former Herald journalist gets Irish Times promotion
FORMER journalist with The Tuam Herald Eithne Donnellan has been appointed Assistant News Editor with The Irish Times. Eithne, a native of Carnaun, Tuam, began her career in journalism with The Herald and moved to the national newspaper as a reporter in 1999. She was appointed the paper's Health Correspondent in 2003 and has since won numerous awards for medical journalism. Eithne is a past pupil of the Mercy Secondary School in Tuam and is a graduate of St Patrick's College in Drumcondra in Dublin and NUI Galway. She was named print medical journalist of the year for 2003 and 2005 at the annual Irish Medical Media Awards and in 2008 won the medical story of the year category. Another journalist who started with The Tuam Herald is Kevin O'Sullivan, who was appointed editor of The Irish Times last year. And the editor of the Irish Independent since 2005, Gerry O'Regan, also started his journalism career in our newsroom on Dublin Road.
