Athenry music event to raise funds for care of young girl
MUSICIANS from across Galway will descend on Athenry this weekend to help fundraise for a young girl who was paralysed after surgery.
The all-day celebration of music entitled, New Beat, is being hosted at J.F. Murphy’s Bar on Saturday, August 22.
It will raise funds for Izzy Sallis, an 11-year-old girl from Mullagh. She was left paralysed from the neck down and unable to breathe independently following a planned scoliosis surgery in September 2025.
Izzy has remained dependent on a ventilator ever since the procedure. While she is awake and fully cognitive, her family are now facing an incredibly challenging future as she is expected to require lifelong 24/7 care and specialist support.
The funds raised from New Beat will help with the substantial costs of medical equipment, mobility supports, adapted transport, home modifications and ongoing care, as well as potential future treatments and medical needs.
The all-day event begins at 3:30pm and will feature two stages of rock, punk, metal, alternative and folk music, with performances from An Slua, The Hungry Buzzards, Yop, Black Shuck, In Athens, Infared, Rural Hate, Preachán, Odhran Ó Spáinneach, Sarah Comerford, Cara McMahon and more.
There will also be a raffle, open mic, record stall and vegan food. Admission is €16/€11, with all ages welcome until 8.30pm. Everyone is encouraged to come along, enjoy a great day of local music and help support Izzy and her family in their fight for the future.
Tickets can be bought on Eventbrite.ie. For updates on the event and Izzy’s her family’s journey, follow izzys_fight on Instagram.
