NO SUBMISSIONS

No public view on major redevelopment plans of Tuam’s Shambles

THERE have been no submissions made from members of the public regarding the major regeneration plans for The Shambles carpark in Tuam town centre.

Galway County Council is planning to redevelop the area to provide for a vibrant sheltered outdoor market and event space, projects that have been mooted for the town for several years.

If the plans are approved, the local authority is eager to seek significant capital funding for the development with the aim of progressing it before the end of the year.

The plans were open to public submissions over the past eight weeks and the closing date was Monday evening.

However, the only two views expressed on the proposals were made by Uisce Eireann and the Department of Housing and Local Government and Heritage — neither of which had any objections to the development.

Members of Tuam Municipal District Council will discuss the proposal at a special meeting of the MDC tomorrow, Thursday, where they will take a vote on the Part 8 planning application for the project. The development is expected to receive the councillors’ backing...
