Approval for Athenry school extension

INITIAL approval has been granted for an extension at St Oliver Plunkett’s National School in Newcastle, Athenry.

The extension approved under the Modular Framework Programme will provide an additional mainstream classroom for the school.

Fianna Fail’s Galway East TD, Albert Dolan said that it is very positive news for the pupils, staff, parents and wider school community in Newcastle.

“Schools across Galway are experiencing growing demand, and it is important that investment continues to ensure that children have access to modern, high-quality educational facilities,” noted Deputy Dolan.

Extra classroom will be a help

“This additional classroom will help support the school's capacity needs and provide extra learning space for students,” he added.

The project will be delivered under the Department’s devolved delivery mechanism and forms part of ongoing investment in school infrastructure across Galway.

Deputy Dolan believes that investing in schools is a way of investing in the communities. He also acknowledged the efforts of the school community in progressing the project.
