Best Hat accolade for Corofin milliner

SHE wasn't wearing it but Corofin milliner Caithriona King is the woman behind the creation that has won Best Hat at Ladies Day at the Galway Races in Ballybrit this afternoon.

Caithriona has been making hats from her rural studio for over a decade and winning Best Hat in Galway is "a dream come true".

The large sweeping gold and pink design was selected for its elegant and unique design and was worn by Eileen Lundon from Gort, who wins a luxurious stay at The Lodge at Ashford Castle worth €1,500.

The winner of Best Dressed went to Galway's Pamela Uba, a medical scientist from Renmore, who was chosen for her fun, fresh and quirky outfit. Wearing a Phoenix V jumpsuit and a hat from Laura Hanlon millinery, Pamela wowed today's judges with her statement look.

Speaking to The Tuam Herald, a very emotional Caithriona said she was "thrilled beyond belief".

It was a very successful day for Caithriona at Ballybrit as she was chosen as one of the 20 finalists and there were four of her hats making it to the top 20 and two made it into the top ten - including the winning hat.

Judges for the day were TV personality Sile Seoige, Rosanna Davison and Gillian Fitzpatrick from Her.ie.
