This baby is 100

SHE is a sprightly, active and fashion-conscious lady who is much loved by her family, friends and neighbours. But very few outside that circle would believe that Baby (Bridget) Lardner from Belclare was 100 years old yesterday (Tuesday).
Born on November 3, 1915, as Bridget Murphy in the village of Lavally, Belclare, beside Caherhugh, she was the youngest of five children, hence the name Baby by which she has been known all her life.
Sadly, she never knew her father — he was killed in an accident involving his horse and cart on his way home from Tuam three months before she was born.
“They say that he had a large stone or rock in the back of the cart to balance it but when the wheel went over another stone on the road the cart jolted so much that the rock at the rear rolled out and killed him,” she says.
Baby has a wonderful memory, especially of growing up in times when neighbours visited each other regularly.
