Councillors query jobs for locals on motorway project

WHY are so few local people employed on the M17-M18 motorway and the Tuam bypass?
That was the question asked — again — when the issue of the lack of job opportunities for local workers on the big road construction projects came up at a meeting on Tuesday.
200 jobs were promised and created in the project, but they have not all gone to local people, according to councillors.
Once again local representatives have been told that contractors who secure projects through the EU public procurement route are entitled to use EU citizens, no matter where they come from.
