Beware car insurance hikes from penalty points

One of the major multi-national insurance companies is putting on a loading of as much as €150 extra if a motorist has only one penalty point, according to a Galway TD who says the Go Safe speed detecting vans are being used to bring in extra cash for the government and the insurance companies.
Deputy Noel Grealish says that the activities of the Go Safe speed detecting vans contribute nothing to safety and where they positioned themselves was “like shooting fish in a barrel.”
“The government is using the Go Safe vans as just another form of revenue raising, and they are not being used to slow down traffic in the rural countryside where there are people speeding at a dangerous rate sometimes.
