Another teenage tennis star with tuam roots

TUAM football stars the late Sean Purcell and Jarlath Lohan would be proud to see their teenage grandsons now destined for stardom, even if they are slugging it out against each other in a game played with a smaller ball — tennis.

When Sean’s grandson Simon Carr from Mullingar won the Fitzwilliam final the teenager that he beat was Morgan Lohan, whose grandfather Jarlath Lohan of Tubberjarlath and Galway Road played with Sean on the famous Tuam Stars six-in-a-row team back in the fifties.
Morgan (16) was narrowly beaten by Simon in the national final. He is also a promising young player who holds national under-10,under-12 and under-14 titles from Fitzwilliam.
