Headford pavilion praised as fantastic community asset

COMMUNITY assets don’t come much more striking than the new pavilion in Headford, which was officially unveiled by Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council and local councillor Mary Hoade last week.
The statuesque Fan Noiméad structure, created by members of the local Men’s Shed last year, is located within the walkway grounds of Moyne Villa soccer club in the town.
Oranmore artist Gareth Kennedy, who designed the pavilion, praised the positive voices within the community that had brought the project to life.
“I based this project on a plan to explore notions of collective labour, or meitheal as it’s known, and also around the idea that the manufacture of a structure within the town would create a sense of social ritual and focus for the participants over a six-month period,” he said.
