New plan will summon help to stymie water meters

A TEXTING SYSTEM whereby people can summon support to try and halt water meters from being installed at their property is being established in the Tuam and surrounding areas.
Meter-alert is being introduced over the coming weeks by the Tuam Against Water Charges group, which co-ordinated the public march of some 400 people through the town on Saturday.
The alert system is inspired by the community alert texting schemes that are in operation in some rural areas whereby texts are sent out to residents alerting them to suspicious activity.
Water meters are due to begin being installed throughout Co Galway during December. Campaigner Keith Crisham from Lissadyra in Tuam told The Tuam Herald that a phone number is being set up which people can text if they are anxious about confronting meter installers on their own.
