Dunmore celebrates its best-ever festival in 40 years

VIDEO: DUNMORE is celebrating the end of one of its most successful festivals in its 40-year history, with about 5,000 people alone visiting the town during its annual market day.
Local businessman and member of the first festival committee Tommie Howley says the event is hugely important to the area and described it as the “All-Ireland final of community involvement”.
“Every club and organisation gets involved,” remarked Tommie, who attributed the ongoing success of the event to a hard working committee. While the committee members have changed over the past 40 years Tommie says without their enthusiasm, energy and hard work it simply wouldn’t survive.
Committee member John Knightly told The Herald that everyone is “absolutely over the moon” with how the festival went. He said one of the biggest parts of the festival is its ability to reunite people.
Dunmore has been impacted by emigration of young people and families over the past ten years but the festival is firmly in the calendar as the time for hundreds of Dunmore ex-pats to come home on holiday.
