RORY Gaffney from Tuam.

Galway soccer’s loss is Limerick’s gain

RORY Gaffney from Tuam was the talk of Irish soccer last week, having hit a hat-trick of brilliant goals in Limerick FC’s 4-1 win over Bray Wanderers in the Premier Division of the League of Ireland, at Thomond Park.
Match reports in the national print media included this tribute to the 24-year-old Tuam man: “Limerick took the lead in the 38th minute when Robbie Williams’s cross caused panic in the Bray defence and Rory Gaffney, who continues to impress, supplied a gorgeous glancing header.”
His second and third goals came in the 82nd and 90th minutes.
Gaffney, who can play equally well in midfield or up front, showed exceptional talent as a youngster in the Tuam Celtic colours and was then brought through the Mervue youths’ system.
