Corofin supersub’s last-gasp goal knocked out Claregalway

A SENSATIONAL last-gasp goal by James Farragher gave Corofin the lead for the first time in the match and stunned hot favourites Claregalway in their keenly fought Intermediate Football Championship clash at Pearse Stadium last Saturday evening, after the losers failed to wrap up victory when they held control late on.
In fairness, Corofin’s second string (but capable of putting it up to many other clubs’ first choice teams) were never going to lie down anyway. Even when the game seemed to be going against them, they continued to play lovely flowing football and their persistence paid off in the end.
By a quirk of fate the roles were reversed last year when Claregalway came from behind to snatch a draw and win the game in extra-time.
This time there was to be no second chance as the final whistle was blown after Brian O’Donoghue’s kick-out. Corofin were through and their opponents were out of a competition that many people fancied them to win.
