Call to action for social entrepreneurs
IF YOU have a big new idea to address any of the social and environmental problems facing the country in 2012, then Social Entrepreneurs Ireland is inviting you to apply for their Awards Programme, which last year saw Tuam Youthreach teacher Sheila Gallagher of Green Sod Land Trust, a finalist. [private] This year, €600,000 in funding and support will be presented to three inspired individuals at the awards ceremony in October and a further €35,000 each will be awarded to another five social entrepreneurs who qualify for Social Entrepreneurs Ireland's Elevator Programme. An extensive eight-month selection process will take place before the announcement of the winners in the autumn, including a March Bootcamp where shortlisted candidates will be invited to pitch their projects, leading to interviews from which eight finalists will be chosen. The finalists will then take part in a three-month programme prior to final selection and announcement of the winners in October. Since 2005, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland has provided support to 150 such entrepreneurs, directly investing over €4m into supporting these exceptional individuals, who have, in turn, created over 800 employment opportunities. So if you can think big, want to change Ireland for the better, and believe your business skills can create positive social change, apply online at www.socialentrepreneurs.ie. Closing date for applications is Thursday, February 16. [/private]
