Hands-on, get tough policy on estates

GALWAY County Council staff have been given specialist legal training as part of a new approach to tackle anti-social behaviour in council estates.
Over the coming weeks housing staff will also be redeployed from County Hall and be based in local areas where they can have a more hands-on approach.
Local authority management have warned councillors that in order for any new housing developments to succeed, local representatives must support staff and not be lobbying in the background against any tough decisions that might be made against tenants. CCTV is also being installed in areas to deter fly-tipping and other anti-social behaviour.
