The Grove is getting a new roof.

Grove to get new use after a decade lying empty

A NEW purpose for the old Grove Hospital in Tuam appears to have been found – more than a decade since it was last occupied.
Planning permission is to be sought by the HSE later this year to transform a large part of the former Bon Secours Hospital into a Community Mental Health Day Hospital.
Concerns were raised in recent weeks at the significant money spent on re-roofing part of the dilapidated building after the HSE had previously stated it wasn’t suitable for renovation.
A year ago the HSE told Galway planning officials that following a comprehensive appraisal of the vacant buildings on the site, it was not viable to refurbish them and “did not represent value for money”.
However, the HSE West appears to have changed its mind and has now confirmed that it has been given the green light to proceed with the refurbishment of the landmark building on Vicar Street.
