Radical proposal to relocate uhg and merlin park hospital to old airport site

A RADICAL proposal to relocate the entire services of University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital to the old airport site on the city’s outskirts is being considered by those carrying out a study on the future use of the lands in Carnmore.
Tuam Fianna Fail Cllr Donagh KIllilea has told the feasibility study consultants that the old airport site, now owned by both Galway City and County Councils, is perfectly situated for the transfer of all services from UHG in Newcastle to Carnmore.
The consultants have agreed to make contact with the HSE West and SAOLTA group regarding the proposal.
Cllr Killilea admits that his plan is “radical” but is adamant that while it would be a long term measure, it would be a practical one and would provide the perfect opportunity for a land swap between the HSE and local authorities.
