Moycullen edge out Stars in thriller

Paul Kelly scored the late goal for Moycullen.

TWO early goals from Dessie Conneely and Owen Gallagher, plus a decisive third late on from Galway U-20 star Paul Kelly, fired Moycullen to a thrilling Senior Football Championship semi-final victory over Tuam Stars and secured their first appearance in club football's showpiece for 43 years.

Tuam played their part in a memorable tussle, probably the game of the championship, and summoned a gutsy revival to claw back a seven-point deficit to level with 10 minutes of normal time remaining. But Moycullen held their nerve and struck a telling blow when Kelly danced inside the cover to finish past Johnny Trayers in the 53rd minute and though Cormac McWalter's sixth point of the day pegged them back to the minimum, the winners settled the outcome with the closing four points of a brilliant match, one in which fortunes swung back and forth throughout.
