BRAVELY conquering cancer and dealing with a drink problem are issues that have been centre stage in the life of singer Dolores Keane since last summer. Now, having achieved both objectives, she will be back on stage in Tuam and Galway in the coming weeks, as well as being the subject of a TV documentary on the personal battles in her life to be screened by RTE on May 12.

"I got the all-clear from the cancer on Valentine’s Day and the scene when I received that good news will be shown in the TV documentary as well. They filmed me being told this in the room in the hospital and, at that stage, I hadn’t a clue what the results were going to be," says Dolores.

She will also be seen talking frankly and openly on the TV documentary about her other battle, with alcohol.

"I haven’t had a drink now in eight months but in the past, when the pressures were on me, I never felt these issues creeping up on me. Now it’s different when I wake up in the morning and realise I am not doing this any more.
