Beef prices healthy leading into Christmas

BALLYGLUNIN farmer and Galway IFA Livestock Representative Stephen Canavan has said that demand for beef is “very strong” coming up to Christmas.

The latest Bord Bia Prime Export Benchmark price is 20c/kg above the current price for beef, which shows the potential for further boosts in beef prices in the coming weeks.

Canavan has said that factories should act accordingly, and that farmers should sell hard and demand higher prices that reflect current marketplace conditions.

“Against this backdrop of tight supplies in our key markets and very strong demand for beef heading into the lucrative Christmas trade, factories must follow suit and increase price offerings,” said Canavan.
