Tuam songwriter goes live with new single

SINGER and songwriter Darragh O’Dea from Tuam has launched a new single from his upcoming album.

The album ‘I Am Drunk And Feel The Earth Is Worth Living’ will be launched at Campbell’s Tavern, Headford on Monday, August 17.

Before the launch, Darragh has shared a new single from the album called ‘Downy Tree’. The song was first written 10 years ago by Darragh and his friend Conor Ralph, when they were living in Chang Mai in Thailand.

“I carried Conor's chorus from that first edition with me, knowing it was destined for a record someday,” said Darragh O'Dea.

The story in the verses of the song stem from a tour in Germany in recent years.

In the song Darragh has imagined a young band he met during this tour, going on to become a big success and losing themselves in the loneliness of fame. He has imagined the band's lead singer isolating themselves from friends and society and perching on top of a downy tree.

“The song is a sort of a letter from their other bandmate trying to bring them round and help them to remember the good times and early days of their creative partnership.”

This version of the song was then recorded by Rob Butterfield in British Columbia.

Following the launch event at Campbell’s Tavern in Headford, Darragh will return to perform in Róisín Dubh, Galway city on Sunday, September 27.
