County Council removes graffiti weeks after complaint made
GRAFFITI that first appeared in a social housing estate in Tuam over a month ago has been removed.
Located on one of the walls adjacent to the entrance of Pairc na Cille estate on the Weir Road.
A spokesperson from Galway County Council’s Housing Maintenance team confirmed to The Tuam Herald that arrangements were being made to have it removed. This work was cariied out on Tuesday, November 3.
The issue was brought to the attention of the council by local resident Mary over a month ago. Having contacted the housing department and local councillors, she was disappointed by the length of time it took for action to be taken.
“I was making no progress through my emails, getting moved around from one council department to the next, so I brought this to the attention of the media in the hope it might get them to address the graffiti faster,” she told The Tuam Herald.
Happy issue finally addressed
“The longer this graffiti was left untouched, the more it was setting a bad example for others, and it was almost encouraging acts of anti-social behaviour. That was worrying me with more social housing on the way in the town. We don’t need to be looking at graffiti like this in Tuam.
“I first contacted the council back on September 20, but I was getting very little in the way of a response that they would take any action. The timeframe for taking action was very disappointing, but at least it looks like it will be finally addressed, which is great news,” she concluded.
