Food programme save over three miilion meals in Galway

AIB’s Community Meals Programme in Galway has helped save over three and a half million meals since its inauguration.

The programme that started in 2018, is a shared effort between AIB and FoodCloud, which redistributes surplus food through various local initiatives and support services across the county.

Since the inception of the programme, over 1.5 million kilos of food have been redistributed to support services in Galway, which amounts to the equivalent of over 3.6 million meals.

“We are incredibly proud of what this partnership has delivered and the impact so far from the community meals programme,” said Barry Field, AIB Corporate Affairs Director.

“It’s a great initiative and collective effort between businesses, charities and community groups that is generating significant environmental benefits, along with supporting practical and community led solutions,” he added.

The AIB Community Meals Programme is also being supported by FoodCloud Kitchen, which helps to prepare nutritious meals for local charities and support services that may have limited cooking capacity.

Co-Founder and CEO of FoodCloud, Iseult Ward noted that along with rescuing surplus food, the programme has demonstrated the potential to bring people closer together through sharing food and resources.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support of AIB and its network of volunteers across Ireland that has helped to positively impact local communities and climate action,” he continued.
