Tuam run will raise vital funds for Claddagh Watch Patrol

The annual Tuam Charity 6K Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, 31st May at 10am. This year’s event is in aid of the Claddagh Watch Patrol; a vital organisation whose mission is to reduce the number of deaths caused by suicide and accidental drowning in the Galway Rivers.

Charity founders, Arthur and Deborah Carr who met with the committee are delighted that Tuam have chosen them as their Charity for 2026 run/walk. Their patrol team watch for anyone who appears distressed, disorientated or suicidal near the River Corrib and Canals and much needed funds are required to keep this service running.

They also caught up with one of the Volunteers/Supervisor, Declan McGuinness who has been a volunteer with Claddagh Watch since 2019.

“My team and I have been involved in suicide intervention and de-escalations of some serious situations,” said Declan. “They have trusted my team and I with their stories and trusted us to keep them safe.” As a result of volunteering with Claddagh Watch, Delcan has gone on to study counselling and psychotherapy.

Palace Grounds

The run/walk will be held on the Palace Grounds outside the Coral Leisure Centre and marks the third consecutive year of this event. In previous years, they proudly supported Oscar’s Kids National Children’s Charity and Galway Hospice, and they are hopeful that this year’s event will be just as successful.

This promises to be a fun, family-friendly occasion, with refreshments available afterwards including tea/coffee, ice-cream van, and music from DJ Aido add to what will be an amazing atmosphere. It is designed to be an enjoyable day out for all ages while supporting a very worthy cause.

Whether you are a seasoned runner or just looking for a casual walk/jog this event is for everyone, so lace up your running shoes and join us for a great morning.
