Joyce: Proud of our lads and the way they battled
GALWAY bounced back from their National Football League opening round defeat to Mayo in the best possible fashion with goals from Kieran Molloy, Rob Finnerty and Matthew Tierney central to a 3-12 to 0-20 victory over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday evening. Afterwards, Herald Sport heard the views of manager Padraic Joyce.
ON A HARD FOUGHT TIE WITH ARMAGH
They're a serious, serious team as we know. This is our seventh or eighth time playing them in the last couple of years and there's only ever been a kick of the ball in it.
They're one of the top three teams in the country, no doubt. We knew coming up here to try and get two points was going to be really tough. But so proud of our lads and the way they battled there. They were three up at one stage near the end, three down, then back up again, and then rescued it, which is great.
ON THE CHARACTER SHOWN TO FIGHT BACK
We had to show the character to fight back from all the mistakes we made in the first half. Super proud of the lads. Getting lads off the bench and making their debuts for us is great, because you can't buy that type of experience for the likes of Shay McGlinchey, Shane McGrath and Brian Cogger.
