Unlocking land would help 13,000 homes to be built

Over 70 per cent of zoned land can't be developed

OVER 70 per cent of the land currently zoned for housing in Co Galway remains undevelopable due to critical infrastructure deficits.

According to a report from the Director of Services for Housing Damien Mitchell, Galway County has 741 hectares of land zoned residential.

This has a capacity to provide 18,807 units of housing. However, only around ten per cent of this land (78.66 hectares) has been granted planning permission.
