Making the run a bit more fun
It is never easy to motivate yourself to head out for a run. Whether it’s the poor weather, a busy schedule or the feeling of boredom that can come from the solo element of running, excuses are easy to find.
But what if there was an added incentive for getting off your couch and completing a run — a cold beer as a reward for getting active. Add in an opportunity to ditch the podcasts or Spotify playlists as company and instead run among others craving a chat while out exercising. If any of this sounds appealing, then the Galway Beer Run could be exactly what you are looking for.
Organised by the Galway Bay Brewery Running Club and held twice a month in the city, The Beer Run is an opportunity for runners of all levels to come together in a social setting, where the focus is on enjoyment and not setting a world record time.
“Like most good ideas this was started by borrowing a concept that seemed to work well elsewhere around the world,” explained Melanie Mannion, one of the co-founders of the Galway Beer Run, alongside Joanna Brophy.
