Dunmore TYs did lots in 2011
AS 2011 came to a close, the Dunmore Transition Years reflected on how much they had accomplished so far. Since September, the TYs have been helping the older residents of Dunmore with weekly computer classes. They are teaching them how to compose emails and surf the internet. An enjoyable experience is currently being had by all. At the beginning of the school year, the TYs set up a St Vincent de Paul group with the help of Mary Jessub, a local SVP leader, and Ms Gilmore, the religion teacher. On Wednesday, December 7, the TYs organised a bingo for the second-year students in order to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul. A large selection of prizes was won and an excellent time was had by everyone involved. The TYs journeyed to Joyce's supermarket in Tuam Shopping Centre on Friday, December 16, to fundraise for St Vincent de Paul and help with their Christmas Appeal. For four hours, they performed a huge selection of Christmas and modern songs. €451.64 was raised and everyone had a festive day! On Friday, December 9, the TYs travelled to Tesco in Claremorris where they packed bags and sold raffle tickets in aid of Cancer Care West. A considerable amount of money was raised for this worthy cause. On January 18, they are flying to London for three nights. They are looking forward tremendously to their educational trip, which also includes the West End show, Wicked. â€â€ Laoise Gordon
