Another vision of puppy love

IT is a very different vision of puppy love for many people around Galway who are blind and depend on both the love and the skills of their guide dogs to get around their homes, for shopping, leisure activities and for going to and coming home from work.

Tom Langan, a native of Abbeyknockmoy but now living in Galway, is one such person and his guide dog goes with him each day to his work at the HSE Community Services in Shantalla.

This month there are major campaigns to get more volunteers and to raise funds for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind (it costs €38,000 to train each guide dog). Tom continues to be a driving force behind the charity as he has been for decades, but when he got his first dog in 1978 he had to go to England for the animal.
