Galways man for roscommon installed in dail for budget

NEW Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice, the Galway man who will represent Roscommon-South Leitrim for the next 18 months, took his seat in the Dail yesterday (Tuesday) just before the Budget was announced.
The big question locally now is who will take over his seat on Galway County Council.
Deputy Fitzmaurice hit the national headlines on Saturday when he beat the Fianna Fail contender, Ivan Connaughton, in the by-election caused by the election of former deputy Luke 'Ming’ Flanagan to the European Parliament.
He polled strongly across all areas of the constituency, and his solid background in the turf cutting campaign made him well known far outside his home area.
