Shock at death of Tuam GP in car crash
THERE is widespread shock across North Galway today at news that Tuam’s Dr John Waldron died in a car crash in Co Tipperary yesterday evening (Sunday).
Dr Waldron who was in his early 70s was not only a well-known and popular GP for decades in Tuam but was also well known in the horse racing world. The crash occurred around 5.15 last evening at Fortmoy Cross, Borrisokane, Co Tipperary.
It’s believed that Dr Waldron was returning from a Point to Point in Ballingarry when his car was in collision with another vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other car, a woman in her 60s, was taken to Limerick Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
The Tuam GP who operated his surgery for many years on Bishop Street in Tuam. One of his noted horse racing successes was being the breeder of Faugheen, named Irish Horse of the Year in 2015 which went on to win the 2015 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham as well as several other high profile races.
Dr Waldron is survived by his wife Dr Mary, family, siblings and a wide circle of relations and friends.
