Tuam memorial event for local 9/11 victim

Public invited to attend

A MINUTE’S silence will be held in Tuam this afternoon (Friday) in memory of Tuam’s Anne Marie McHugh who died 25 years ago in the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York.

A special 25th anniversary gathering will be held at the Anne Marie McHugh Memorial Garden at The Lane in the town centre with a moment of silence taking place at 2pm.

Anne, who was 35 when she died, worked as a stockbroker on the 84th floor of the World Trade Centre. She was last seen on the 40th floor as she tried to make her way to safety but her death was confirmed in the days following the atrocity. Her remains were never recovered.

Today's event is organised by Tuam Tidy Towns and will include some short readings and traditional music from the Corofin Comhaltas group.

Tuam Tidy Towns has issued an invitation to the public to join with them in remembering and honouring the memory of all those who lost their lives 25 years ago and the courageous first responders who gave their lives in the service of others.
