July's heatwave sees patients attend Galway Emergency Dept

HIGH temperatures resulted in 33 patients going to the Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway for heat-related and dehydration problems this month. Temperatures were in the high 20Cs across County Galway for spells of the month.

A spokesperson for the HSE confirmed to The Tuam Herald that “heat-related issues and dehydration were recorded in the triage notes” from 33 admissions to the hospital’s Emergency Department this month.

While the dry spell continued into last week, some rain has returned in recent days.

Met Éireann’s weather station in Athenry had measured just 9.1mm of rainfall as of Saturday (July 26). Its total rainfall figure for July 2025 was 148.3mm.
