Donaghpatrick NS receives sustainability award

A NATIONAL School in Caherlistrane have been honoured at the 2026 Re-turn Exemplary School Awards.

In April, Donaghpatrick NS entered the competition after sharing the story of their successful Re-turn Week initiative, during which pupils collected 4,392 containers. It led to them making the final shortlist amongst entries from across the country.

While Donaghpatrick NS narrowly missed out on the overall national title, the judges praised the pupil’s teamwork, enthusiasm and commitment to sustainability, and presented the school with a Re-turn Exemplary School Award.

The money raised from Re-turn week helped the school reach its fundraising goal of purchasing new recycled plastic benches for the playground.
