Factories urged to increase beef prices for farmers
THE rise in retail sales for beef in recent years must make its way back to farmers, according to the Galway IFA Livestock Representative.
Stephen Canavan from Ballyglunin has said that factories must use the positive market conditions to increase prices for farmers and take back control of the marketplace.
“The turnaround in beef sales in the important retail sector will be further supported by increased demand from food service over the summer period,” said Canavan.
“The improved demand for beef in recent weeks is becoming evident on the ground as factories have again started ringing around looking for cattle.
“Farmers should sell hard as factories are actively looking for cattle. Market demand is increasing and prices well above those quoted have been paid, particularly for larger and specialist lots.”
