Galway complaints to Ombudsman for Children

CALLS from Galway accounted for five per cent of complaints made to the Ombudsman for Children's Office (OCO) last year.

The OCO’s Annual Report for 2025 shows a total of 1,778 complaints were made to the office nationwide, with education (31 per cent), Tusla (20 per cent) and children’s health services (14 per cent) topping the list of concerns.

The report details another extremely busy year for the OCO, with complaints becoming more complex and 15 per cent referring to more than one agency.

Of the 1,552 individual complaints, 81 per cent came from parents and four per cent from the children themselves. The OCO engaged with more than 2,500 children in 2025 through their rights education workshops, school visits and outreach work around the country.
