Street Feast to be organised by Abbeyknockmoy Parish Society

Potluck picnic for Abbey street feast

STREET Feast in Abbeyknockmoy this weekend aims to build connections between neighbours to strengthen the community.

The event co-ordinated by the Abbeyknockmoy Parish Society takes place on Sunday, May 24 at 3pm in the Community Picnic Park.

“It is an opportunity for people to meet and socialise with each other without any cost,” stated Marian Williams, a member of the organising committee.

“We encourage people to treat it like a potluck where everyone can bring a dish or snacks like muffins, cakes, cookies etc to share, only if they want,” she added.

Ms Williams believes that Street Feasts are a great way of breaking down barriers of social inclusion and building connections between neighbours to increase the strength of the community. Street Feast is Ireland’s nationwide day of street parties, community celebrations and neighbourhood lunches, which takes place across the country on May 23 and 24.

It can be hosted by any individual or community groups, by registering their interest with the Street Feast initiative.
